APEC Cross-Border Privacy Rules system provide an example of a flexible and effective way to ensure cross-border data flows while ensuring the protection of personal information. This session will highlight the role of Member Economies’ privacy authorities in monitoring compliance and in enforcing the privacy rules, as well as the framework’s emphasis on interoperability of frameworks for the protection of privacy across borders. The positive elements of the CBPR framework can be reproduced in other regions, where states have considered data localization mandates.
