China has finally adopted its long-awaiting cybersecurity standard, which imposes GDPR-like privacy standards on many industries with online activities in China. Highly developed privacy programs in Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong continue to be influential. India, one of the largest countries in the world without a data protection law, is moving toward crafting legislation, with an experts’ white paper released at the end of 2017. The panel will provide an overview of these developments in Asia and contrast them with standards such as GDPR.
